Cottam Brush Introduces Patent-Pending SPLITGRIP to Reduce Industrial Maintenance Downtime
UK-based industrial brush manufacturer Cottam Brush Ltd has announced the launch of SPLITGRIP, a patent-pending modular roller brush system developed to simplify brush replacement and significantly reduce equipment maintenance downtime.
The announcement reflects the industry’s growing focus on maintenance-friendly engineering solutions that help manufacturers improve operational efficiency while reducing production interruptions. Designed with retrofit compatibility in mind, the new system aims to minimise the time and labour traditionally associated with replacing industrial roller brushes.
Across industries such as manufacturing, recycling, quarrying and bulk material handling, replacing worn roller brushes has historically required dismantling major machine components, including shafts, bearings and motors. These maintenance procedures often result in extended production stoppages, increased labour requirements and higher operating costs.
According to Cottam Brush, the newly developed SPLITGRIP system addresses these challenges through an innovative split-body design that enables individual brush sections to be installed directly onto existing shafts. The system also incorporates a positive shaft grip mechanism, allowing secure operation while eliminating the need for extensive equipment disassembly during routine maintenance.

“Industrial operators are under constant pressure to maximise uptime and reduce operating costs,” said Nick Palreyman, Head of Product and Design at Cottam Brush Ltd. “By enabling brush changes without dismantling major equipment components, SPLITGRIP transforms maintenance from a production-stopping event into a fast, planned intervention.”
The company says the modular system offers several operational advantages beyond reducing maintenance time.

Targeted Component Replacement
Rather than replacing an entire roller brush assembly, operators can replace only the worn brush sections. This approach helps minimise material waste while reducing replacement costs.
Reduced Spare Parts Inventory
By lowering the need to stock complete brush assemblies, facilities can optimise spare parts inventory and reduce storage requirements.
Retrofit Compatibility
SPLITGRIP has been engineered for retrofit applications and can be manufactured to suit round, square and hexagonal shaft configurations, allowing existing equipment to be upgraded without major modifications.
Suitable for conveyor systems, recycling facilities, quarrying operations and OEM machinery, the new system has been developed to provide a practical maintenance solution for industries where equipment reliability and uptime are essential. By simplifying routine brush replacement, Cottam Brush aims to help operators reduce production downtime while improving long-term maintenance efficiency.
